Ok, I’ll just say that this is probably going to be boring for anyone other than myself reading this entry, but I’ve wanted to do this for awhile now. So, as you can see, I’ve been having some fun! Last week, I got an invite from a local mom/Tie Dyer, to come over to her house for a “tie dye party”. I had already been gathering up white things with wishes to do this, and her timing couldn’t have been more perfect. She had all the supplies on hand and the expert “how to” knowledge to guide me in the right direction. It was so much fun, thanks Jessica! I can’t wait to see my little guy wearing every single piece that his mommy made just for him! The black messenger diaper bag was something that I recently got at a thrift store for a whopping $3.50, with hopes of jazzing it up. I shopped on Etsy, and found these amazing, fun appliques that were really quite reasonable and as of today, ironed them on to the bag. I think it is quite cute and can’t wait to start using it! Plus, everytime Ethan looks at it, he makes a cute little lion roar, how adorable:)

So, what’s next on my list? I have an old dresser sitting out in the shop, waiting for some repairs and a face lift. I’m sure there are other things, I just can’t think of right now…Gabe thinks I’m crazy, I think it’s fun!

Man, where has the time gone? Hard to believe I am in the home stretch already, well that is if you can call being pregnant 2 more months the home stretch. I feel like I am much more whiny at an earlier stage than I can remember being last time, much more uncomfortable, etc. I have a hard time believing that I am going to make it all the way to 40 weeks, but I could be very wrong and I don’t want to get my hopes up. It’s just that my body has been giving me signals that things are progressing, and by the current size of my belly I can’t imagine it growing even larger over the next 9 weeks!

So I have been making this tea now for about the last three weeks which consists of about half nettle, half red raspberry leaf. I make a really strong brew and drink it iced, no sweetener for me. I was sopost to be adding yellow dock root to it as well, but the first batch with that stuff tasted so nasty I couldn’t choke it down, so I’m omitting it altogether. Both Red raspberry Leaf and Nettles have wonderful healing qualities, that happen to be especially helpful to pregnant women in aiding with blood building and toning of the uterus. We are trying to take precautionary measures this time around to prevent PP Hemmorage, cause ya know…I just don’t really feel like dealing with that again!

The tea really doesn’t taste bad at all, just kind of earthy and grassy. Funny thing is, both my son and my husband love it too…so I have been making alot of it lately.

First I must say, that it is a whopping 25 degrees cooler outside as I am writing this post, almost feels chilly in the middle of the night. Ahh…my kind of weather.

So lately I have been really nesting around the house. I have been doing lots of thinking, and reorganizing to make room for one more in our rather tiny house. So far I have been up in the attic and have sorted through all Ethan’s baby clothes and washed and folded what I am going to use. I have picked out about 8 different baby blankets of all sizes and textures and washed them and put them in their own drawer..I have to add that baby blankets are a VERY popular gift for a new mom to be, and as nice as it is to have a selection…..PLEASE no more baby blankets!!

I have been trying to figure out the best organization of the boy’s toy/clothes/changing table room. Right now Ethan has all his toys and books scattered everywhere in the room and you can hardly walk in there without fear of breaking your ankle on a wooden block. I need to make room for his toys, both boy’s clothes, both kids diapers and the changing station. So I ended up buying this toy organizer off of Craigslist that I had actually admired on the Target website a while back and was going to have Gabe make me one in a similar style. But let’s face it. My husband is a busy man, and if I were to actually wait for him to get around to this project it might be finished the day the baby is born and that just won’t do it for me right now. So I feel like I got a good deal, and he got off the hook in needing to set aside time to do that for me.

Next up, I am looking for a simple smaller sized dresser for the room for the new baby’s clothes to go in. I have only looked in one thrift store so far, but I have confidence that I will find something cheap and perfect for my needs. I can always spice it up and paint it if needed.

I figure if I pick one small project everyday, I’ll be set…right? I still have to leave time for making meals and freezing them, but that can wait until September. I’m not messing around this time, I mean business:)

As I am writing this is is a sticky 93 degrees outside, and probably close to the same inside. Tomorrow is sopost to only be upper 80’s, yippee. I am so tired of being hot, it is not even funny anymore. Three cold showers a day and minimal clothing is all that is keeping me alive, oh and lots of ice tea. Our ice maker is having a hard time keeping up with our demands.

We had company on and off over the last three weeks, and as of Saturday they have headed back west. We had a great time, don’t get me wrong..but it sure feels good to try and get back to “normal”. We had lots of time to just hang out and enjoy each other’s company, and we also had one really productive week of house demo and curtain making. Gabe decided to utilize his brother-in-law’s skills, and have him help him with our sun room remodel project. It is going to be wonderful when it is finished, but until then we are living in a hot, torn apart home.

Ethan and his cousin Dustin got to spend alot of time playing and getting to know each other the last few weeks, and we were sad to see them go, as it could be another year until we see them again!!

I am in much need of some “mommy alone time”, and so this afternoon I am taking Ethan to the pool to meet his daddy after he is done working and they are going to have some male bonding while I go and read a book in air conditioning somewhere. Here are some recent pics that show our last few weeks…

Yes, I broke down this time and really wanted to know the sex of the baby for some reason. We had our ultrasound yesterday with Dr. Mintzer, and revealed some very evident boy parts inside of me! I really thought this time it was a girl. Everything from the beginning has been so different and I thought my “intuition” was picking up girl vibes. BOY was I wrong!! I will admit, I secretly wanted a girl for selfish reasons, and shed a few tears knowing that that just isn’t my destiny in life, beings my husband is putting his foot down at 2 kids…but after my 1 minute of tears and sadness, I am very excited about the idea of having another sweet boy. Ethan will love having a brother to grow up with, and boys treat their mamas so very special.

I am very grateful that everything showed up to be growing perfectly normal and healthy…oh, did I mention BIG too? Yes, according to my dates I am only 26 1/2 weeks pregnant right now, but according to the measurments of the baby.(head, femur..not sure what else he measured) dates the size of the baby to be more like 28 weeks along, and approximately 2 1/2 lbs. When I told the doctor that Ethan was a large baby at 9lbs 2 oz he said…oh…and then I said, ” And he was born one week EARLY”…he said…oh, my….looks like you are in for another large baby boy! And here I was hoping I would get lucky this time around and have a nice “normal” sized baby that stayed “baby sized” for more than 2 weeks…

I am set, though in terms of what I have, what I need, etc. Don’t really need a darn thing. I have lent some of his clothes to his cousin Dustin, but I’m pretty sure she still has most of them and can give them back if we need them.

Ok, just wanted to get my thoughts written down and share the news!

We have been working really hard the last couple of days to get the house and the yard ready to house some guests for a while.  Gabe’s sister and her family are driving here from California to vacation/see family/ride Ragbrai.  They should be arriving tomorrow evening, and will be staying here with us until they leave for the ride, and then will be coming back afterwards to stay here for a while longer.  It will be a lot of fun because they have a son who just turned one a few days ago, and we’ve only met him once last fall when we flew out to visit them, but he was only 3 mths old at that time.  Now both he and his big cousin are walking and will hopefully have fun playing together.

We, I should say mainly Gabe, really gets motivated to get some deep cleaning/home projects done when we have this kind of deadline.  That being said, right now our basement, where they will be sleeping, is completely torn apart and is in the process of being deep cleaned to the core.  Gabe started painting the floor today..(concrete) and it is amazing what a nice coat of paint can do to freshen something up.  I washed the bedding today and it is still outside on the line airing out.  We also have a bathroom/laundry room in the basement that is your typical kind of basement bathroom/shower, but Gabe also took out the toilet and power washed it, and gave all the walls and the floor a fresh, bright coat of paint as well..needless to say it looks quite nice!  Now all we have to do is get in that shower and try to clean it really well..the grout is kind of gross with some mildew growing in there.

Since I am not really in the stage right now to  use any kind of harsh cleaners to get that nasty job done, my mother-in-law, who owns her own cleaning business is stopping by in the morning with her crew to help us out with a few last minute cleaning projects, such as cleaning that shower, and sweeping and mopping all our hardwood floors upstairs.  She is really into bartering, and she has a good sized list of things she wants Gabe to work on for her, so this is her trade, cleaning for us.  I’ll take that.

Anyways, nothing like waiting till the very last minute for us, but thats just what we do..especially with a toddler who can create new messes in 10 seconds flat, it really only makes sense.  Can’t wait to see our family, it should be lots of fun..will report back soon with pictures of our reunion!

Think that explains the way things are here in Iowa right now. Hot and sticky, just lovely. What else can we expect for the middle of July though, right? With temps near 90, and no air on in the house, you can bet my big ‘ol body is standing in front of the fan a good portion of the day. We are trying really hard to not break down and turn our central air on. We like the breeze blowing through the house, and we also are trying to save on energy. We haven’t even had it on once this year yet, so who knows if it even works?? Hopefully, because if this keeps up, we might have to break down and turn it on for a bit. We like challenges though, and this is another one of those for us. Just have to take a few quick cool showers or run through the sprinkler outside a few times in a day and you really feel alot better!
